These are guidelines printed by the
INTA/NMC Consumer group. They recommend that you leave and find
another place to patronize if they do not comply or follow general safety and cleanliness procedures. Here are a few thngs to watch for:
- A salon that looks dirty in general.
Look for nail clippings, dust or other debris.
- Salon uses dirty files, buffers or
other tools.
- Salon uses products from unmarked
containers.
- Salon stores implements in drawers or
dark containers.
- Salon is using implements from
containers that have cloudy or dirty disinfectant solution.
- Salon does not cover disinfection
containers.
- Restrooms are dirty and unkempt, lack
liquid soap or clean paper towels.
- Nail technicians are using razors on
clients feet to remove callous or thick skin.
(THIS IS ILLEGAL IN ILLINOIS)
- Salon continues to provide service for
people with infected nails, fingers, toes, or feet.
Also, be wary of Nail salon technicians who:
- Do not have you wash your hands of
soak your feet before a service.
- Do not wash their own hands before
providing a service for you!
- Are giving a service that is painful
or damages you skin or nails. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HURT!
- Cannot explain how to disinfect tools
,files, drills, or foot spas.
- Use implements or other objects to
"pry" off artificial nails.
- Do not use clean towels.
- Will not show you their license if
asked.
- Say they are to busy to properly
sanitize and disinfect their workstation and tools.
- Stick their fingers directly into the
jar and containers.
- Do not discuss concerns, ask questions
and/or complete a consultation before performing services.
